Sin - frei nach Forugh Farrokhzad

2024

Soprano, English Horn, and Organ (7')

The Iranian writer Forugh Farrokhzad describes in her poem "Sin" a passionate desire that defies societal conventions. Through her texts, she "unveils" the woman and is regarded as a symbol of independence.

My composition plays with moments of solo singing emerging from nothingness, recurring motifs expressing a longing to be heard, and lamenting elements of the English horn, alternating with dark tones of the organ that rise up and silence the voice.

Dedicated to the oppressed and persecuted, and to all those who are not seen for who they truly are.

Commissioned by the WinterMUSIK Altona Festival, premiered on February 10, 2024, at St. Petri Altona.
