Fabian Otten Komponist und Schlagzeuger

Fabian Otten is a solo percussionist in the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg and a composer of contemporary works for chamber music, orchestra, and music theater.

In 2012, he began his percussion studies at the HfMT Hamburg with Massimo Drechsler, Stephan Cürlis, and Cornelia Monske. He continued his studies at the HfM "Hanns Eisler" with Franz Schindlbeck, Rainer Seegers, and percussion soloist Li Biao. His first orchestral position was with the Philharmonie Südwestfalen in 2014. Additionally, he performed with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, where he also appeared as a soloist. He was a finalist in the international competition of the Percussive Arts Society in Italy, won 2nd prize at the international competition "Marimba Festiva" in Bamberg, and received a special prize from Bayerischer Rundfunk. Since the summer semester of 2023, he has held a teaching position for marimba at HMT Leipzig, and he has been a member of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg since the 2017/18 season.

In addition to his work as a percussionist, he initially composed several works for percussion and chamber music – his composition Samsara won the "Interstellar Composer Competition 2021." Since then, his compositional repertoire has expanded through various commissions, including pieces for chamber ensembles, orchestra, and music theater. He is currently completing his Master’s degree in Composition at the HfMT Hamburg under Prof. Fredrik Schwenk.
